Leesburg, VA (November 25, 2014) – Makersmiths, a
non-profit community organization dedicated to
promoting the Maker Movement, will be hosting a
screening of the documentary film “Maker” on
Monday, December 1, 2014, at 7:00pm in the lower
level meeting space at Ida Lee Park Recreation Center.
This screening, co-hosted by the Town of Leesburg, is
free of charge, but seating will be limited. Tickets can
be reserved prior to December 1, 2014, by emailing
events@makersmiths.org.
"Maker" is a feature documentary looking into the Maker Movement that is reforming the
American economy with a new wave of Do-It-Yourself and Do-It-Together efforts. The Maker
Movement, sometimes called the "Third Industrial Revolution," re-invents traditional
manufacturing by building on innovative concepts such as open source, local manufacturing,
crowd funding, and digital fabrication. Breaking the hobbyist movement stereotype, "Maker"
delves deep into this ecosystem of design and manufacturing in the Internet era. The film
explores the ideas, tools, and personalities that are driving the Maker Movement – and returns
with a timely snapshot of one of the transforming influences of the current age.
This emerging innovation in Leesburg represents the nexus of our community of entrepreneurs,
artists and engineers,” commented Marantha Edwards, Leesburg’s Economic Development
Director. “Pat Scannell, CEO of Makersmiths, brings forward a timely and solid economic
development concept.”
Following the screening, local makers will be on hand to talk about how the Maker Movement
is unfolding in Leesburg and Makersmiths will announce details about their upcoming launch of
Leesburg’s first Makerspace.

“We are looking forward to increasing awareness in our community about this important
movement that promotes economic development and also great opportunities for hobbyists
and families,” said Leesburg Council Member Katie Sheldon Hammler. “We are very excited
that Makersmiths has chosen to locate in Leesburg. The timing is also opportune as we are
actively reaching out to seek input from key stakeholders and the community about light
industrial expansion in town."
