HomeMy Public PortalAbout2022 0927 San Ildefonso and District of Louisiana DayCITY OF RIVERDALE, IOWA PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the City of Riverdale has over the years been under many jurisdictions which are being highlighted this year as part of a series of proclamations. WHEREAS, on October 1st, 1800, a secret treaty was agreed upon transferring lands between France and Spain, including those lands which now include Riverdale, which at the time was part of the Spanish territory of Louisiana. WHEREAS, Spain was provided Tuscany and any other 3 contiguous Italian provinces it so chose, along with its approximately 1 million inhabitants in exchange for the Louisiana territory and 6 ships of war built to hold 74 guns, armed and equipped. WHEREAS, on October 1st, 1804, the US government formally established the District of Louisiana, incorporating all unorganized territory of the Louisiana purchase above the 33`d parallel and placing it under the supervision of the Territory of Indiana and its territorial governor William Henry Harrison. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby proclaim October 1st as SAN IL,D O NS � J� , DI TKi 1 J OF LOUISIANA DAB in Riverdale, and encourage all staff, residents, and visitors to learn more about the history of the founding of our region and those who first help establish our community.
