HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrd. 0688ORDINANCE No. 6gg AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD ADOPTING ~ UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE, EXCEPT CERTAIN PORTIONS OF SAID CODE, WHICH CODE PROVIDES FOR THE PRO- ~ECTION OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY, REGU- LATES PERMITS FOR THE INSTALLATION OR ALTERA- TION OF PLUMBING, GAS, AND DRAINAGE SYSTEMS AND REGULATES AND DEFINES OTHER MATTERS PEHTAINING THERETO, AND REPEALING ORDINANCE N0. 639 AND ALL OTF~R ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. The City Council of the City of Lynwood d.oes hereby ordain as follows: Section l. Ad.option of Plumbing Cod.e, There is hereby adopted by the City Council of the City of Lynwood that certain cod.e known as the Uniform Plumbing Cod.e recommend.ed by the Western Plumbing 0£ficials Association, being particularly the 1958 Edition, except Section 1.7 and 1.12 of Part One, and all of Part Two of said Code, of which three (3) copies have been and now are filed with the City Clerk of the City of Lynwood., and. the same are hereby adopted. and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and £rom the date on which this ordinance shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the City of Lynwood. Section 2. Floor Drains and Shower Stalls. Referring to Section 909 of the said Uniform Plumbing Code, there is hereby added to said section the following provisions: (I) DOORS and PANELS. Doors and panels of shower and bathtub enclosures shall be substantially constructed from approved. shatter resistant materials. Hinged shower doors shall open outward. (J) GLASS. Glass used in doors and panels of shower and bathtub enclosures shall be not less than seven thirty-second.s inch (7/32") in thickness, and shall be of an approved. type of wire reinforced., tempered, or laminated wire glass. (K) PLASTICS. Plastics used in doors and panels of shower and bathtub enclosure doors and panels shall be o£ approved type and thickness. Section 3. Permits Required. A person, whether acting as -1- principal, servant, agent, or employee, shall not d.o or cause, or permit to be done, any gas piping, plumbing, drainage, house sewer or private sewage disposal work regulated by this code without first securing a permit from the ~uilding Department authorizing him so to cb. Section 4. Cost of Permit. Any person applying for a permit shall, at the time the application is made, pay to the Building Inspector the fees aet forth in this Section. Penalties, a. ~ny person who shall violate ~.2 _ any of the provisions of the code hereby adopted or fail to comply therewith, or who shall violate or fail to comply with any order made thereund.er, or any detailed statement of specifications or plans sub- mitted and. approved thereunder, or any certificate or pex~mits issued. thereund.er, or who shall fail to comply with such an ord.er as affirmed. or modified. by a court of competent jurisdiction within the time fixed herein, shall severally for each and every such violation and noncompliance respectively, be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than Five Hund.red Dollars ($500.00) or by imprison- ment for not more than one hundred eighty (180) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment, The imposition of one penalty for any violation shall not excuse the violation or permit it to continue, and all such persons shall be required to correct or remedy such violations or defects within a reasonable time, and when not otherwise speci£ied. each ten days that prohibited conditions are maintained shall con- stitute a separate offense. b. The application of the above penalty shall not be held to prevent the enforced. removal of prohibited conditions. Section 6. Repeal of Conflicting Ord.inances. Ordinance No. 693 of the City of Lynwood is hereby repealed and all former ordinances or parts thereof conflicting or inconsistent with the pro- visions of this ordinance or of the code hereby adopted are hereby repealed.. Provided, however, that the enactment of this ord.inance shall not serve to repeal the ordinances mentioned. above as to any violations thereof which occurred prior to the ef£ective date of this ord.inance, and provid.ed further that the enactment of this ordinance shall not serve to ~erm~nate or otherwise afPect variances, permits, or other adjustments authorized und.er the provisions oP the said. ordinanees hereby repealed. Section 7. Validity. The City Council hereby d.eclares that should any section, paragraph, sentence, or word of this ord.inance or of the code hereby adopted be declared for any reason to be invalid, it is the intent of the City Council that it would have passed all -3- other portions of this ordinance independ.ent of the elimination herefrom of any such portion as may be declared invalid.. Section 8. Date of Effect. This ordinance shall take effect and.be in force from and after its approval as required by law. Ordinance No. 693 and. all other ordinances mentioned in Section 5 hereof shall remain in full force and effect until the e£fective d.ate of this ordinance.
