AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA
ADOPTING A BUILDING CODE FOR REGULATING THE
ERECTING, CONSTRUCTION, ENLARGEMENT, ALTERATION,
REPAIR, MOVING, REMOVAL, DEMOLITION, CONVERSION,
OCCUPANCY, EQUIPMENT, USE, HEIGHT, AREA, AND
MAINTENANCE OF ALL BUILDINGS AND/OR STRUCTURES
IN THE CITY OF LYNWOOD; PROVIDING FOR ISSUANCES
OF PERMITS AND COLLECTION OF FEES THEREFOR; PRO-
VIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF SUCH CODE, AND
REPEALING SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE N0, 423 AND
ORDINANCE NUMBER 638.
Be it ordained by the City Council of the City o£
Lynwood:
Section l. Adoption of Building Code.
There is hereby adopted by the City Council of the City
of Lynwood for the purpose of prescribing regulations providing
minimum stand.ards to safeguard life or limb, health, property, and
public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction,
quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and. maintenance of
all buildings and structures within the city and certain equipment
specifically regulated herein, that certain code known as the
Uniform Building Code recommend.ed by the Pacific Coast Build.ing
Of£icials Conference, being particularly the 1958 edition, except
Section 2.04 thereof, of which cod.e not less than three (3) copies
have been and now are £iled in the office of the Clerk of the City
of Lynwood, and the same, with the exception of Section 2.04 thereof,
is hereby adopted and incorporated as £ully as i£ set out at length
herein, and from the date on which this ordinance shall take effect,
the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits o£ the
City of Lynwood.
Section 2. Penalties.
a. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of
the code hereby adopted or fail to comply therewith or who shall
violate or fail to comply with any order mad.e thereunder, or any
detailed. statement o£ specifications or plans submitted and approved
thereunder, or any certi£icate or permits issued thereunder, and

from which no appeal has been taken, or who shall fail to comply
with such an order as affirmed or modi£ied by the City Council or by
a court of competent jurisdiction, within the time fixed herein, shall
severally for each and. every such violation and. noncompliance respectively,
be guilty of a misd.emeanor punishable by a fine of not more than
Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or by imprisonment for not more than
one hundred eighty (180) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
The imposition of one penalty for any violation shall not excuse the
violation or permit it to continue, and all such persons shall be
required to correct or remedy such violations or defects within a reason-
able time, and when not otherwise speci£ied, each ten days that pro-
hibited cond.itions are maintained. shall constitute a separate offense.
b. The application of the above penalty shall not be
held to prevent the enforced. removal of prohibited conditions.
Section 3. Repeal of Con£licting Ordinances.
Section 1 of Ordinance No. 423 and Ord.inance No. 638 are
hereby repealed, and. all former ordinances or parts thereof con£licting I
or inconsistent with the provisions of this ordinance or of the code
hereby ad.opted are hereby repealed.
Section 4. Validity.
The City Council hereby declares that should any section,
paragraph, sentence, or word. of this ordinance or of the code hereby
adopted be declared for any reason to be invalid., it is the intent of
the City Council that it would have passed all other portions of this
ordinance independent of the elimination herefrom of any such portion
as may be d.eclared invalid.
Section 5. Date o£ Effect.
This ordinance shall take ef£ect and. be in force £rom and
after its approval as required by law; Section 1 of Ordinance No. 423
and Ordinance No. 638 and all other ordinances mentioned in Section 3
hereof shall remain in full force and effect until the effective date
of this ord.inance.
Section 6. The City Clerk is hereby ordered and directed.

to be published once in the Lynwood Press, a newspaper of general
circulation, printed and. circulated in the City of Lynwood.

the 2ndday of September by the following vote:
