The meeting came to order at 8:04 a.m. by Mitchell Woodrum. The March 15, 2019 meeting minutes
were reviewed and approved with a motion by Susan Cook-Williams and second by Missy Creed. The
motion passed 5-0.
New Business:
EER Event Update: Jane Barnes and Mitchell Woodrum report due to end of school year constraints and
a lack of general traction and participation for this event, it was decided to reassess and consider an
early fall event. The intent is to create a relationship amongst the involved groups which may be better
fostered in the fall if interest is expressed by the school district. All involved groups were notified of the
cancellation and tickets sold were refunded.
Jefferson City Area Board of Realtors Fair Housing Event Update: Susan Cook-Williams, Missy Creed, and
Mitchell Woodrum report this event was well organized and well attended. One speaker from GLO
provided continuing education for realtors regarding unconscious bias and housing issues facing the
LGBTQ+ community. The commission discussed working with PROMO to approach the city council to
make sexual orientation a protected class within Jefferson City.
Other Business:
The commission discussed opportunities to build a relationship with Lincoln University.
Patsy Johnson updated the commission about the city-wide listening sessions with the police
department and Empower Missouri. The information from surveys is being organized and there will be
continued community engagement.
The commission discussed increasing Facebook use as a community educational component.
Public Comment:
Frank Rycik updated the commission on the successful Festival of Faiths event. He also encouraged the
commission to consider speaking to Evening Rotary. He shared the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of
Jefferson City will host two events in June, one the first Sunday in June with Don Love as the featured
speaker.
Michael Brownstein informed the commission there is a section in the library regarding the history of
Jefferson City through the eyes of diversity.
Adjournment:
There being no further business, Susan Cook-Williams made a motion to adjourn which passed 5-0
ending the meeting at 9:00 a.m.
The next meeting is scheduled for May 17, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. in the Boone/Bancroft room at City Hall.
