Please watch for children, especially near the parks. As winter approaches, please keep trash and recycling bins at the end of your driveway and out of the street on collection day. This will greatly help the process of snow removal. Republic Services’ yard waste composting program ends for the season on November 28th. Unlike other cities, Riverdale has no yard waste sticker/fee program. Yard waste bags can be purchased locally, filled, and left at your curb any time of year. Riverdale, Iowa, allows yard waste and leaf burning, with some restrictions. Any time the City, County, or State issues a burn ban, the burn ban takes precedence over the City’s ordinance, which can be found here: For further information, visit the following websites: • State of Iowa Fire Marshal Burn Ban – https://dps.iowa.gov/divisions/state-fire-marshal/burn-bans • National Weather Service Drought Monitor Graphics - https://www.weather.gov/dvn/drought • Iowa Code 100.40 for Burn Ban - https://www.legis.iowa.gov/docs/ico/chapter/2013/100.40.pdf • Scott County Emergency Agency - https://www.scottcountyiowa.gov/ema 6 Daylight Savings Time- Fall Back 7 Utility payment due 7 RFD training 6:30pm 8 Elections 7a-8p 8 Council meeting 7pm 11 Veteran's Day - City Hall Closed 11 Council Goal Setting Workshop 2pm 14 RFD training 6:30pm 21 RFD training 6:30pm 22 Council meeting 7pm 24 Thanksgiving - City Hall Closed 25 City Hall Closed 28 Last day for yard waste composting 28 RFD training 6:30pm All November events are at City Hall. Sabryna has experience in an office setting, having worked in a few different office roles during her adult life. Most recently, she owned and operated a small hair salon suite. Sabryna has over 12 years of experience as a small business owner and manager. Working for the City of Riverdale will allow her to have more family time and is something she is most excited about. Sabryna looks forward to meeting the residents of Riverdale and getting to know the community. Having grown up in a small town herself, she understands the value of a tight knit community. Sabryna hopes to be another friendly face you can rely on at City Hall. PLEASE HELP US KEEP LEAVES AND YARD WASTE OUT OF THE STORM DRAINS Actions you take in your yard maintenance have direct impacts on the quality of the water that is collected in the roadway storm drains and then conveyed to Duck Creek or Crow Creek. Letting leaves remain in the street allows them to enter the storm drains. From there, they are conveyed, via storm sewer, to Duck or Crow Creek. Yard waste, which includes leaves, can cause nutrient pollution and oxygen depletion in the water within the creeks. The City’s street sweeping machine has been out of commission for some time. The City is now looking at options to, once again, start sweeping the City streets. A special emphasis will be placed on more street sweeping efforts being made during the fall season. Until the City is once again sweeping our streets, it is a permit requirement from the State of Iowa that you remove the leaves from the street in front of your home. Please bag them with the other leaves from your yard. Most importantly, please do not rake the leaves from your yard onto the street. That just makes the street litter problem worse as the City is not yet sweeping. Remember to change your smoke and carbon monoxide batteries as well! Mayor’s Monthly Question Over the past 3 years, Quercus Land Stewardship Services has provided landscaping for our City for approximately $20k/year. They have significantly revamped the landscaping and mulching at most of our parks and public spaces, two of which have been certified as monarch waystations. A separate contract handles all the mowing, weed eating, edging, spraying for weeds, etc. Council is currently considering whether to reissue this contract and if so, what changes to make to it. What landscaping efforts would you like to see the City tackle in the next 3-year contract, or should we take a break from landscaping?
