HomeMy Public PortalAbout1997/09/24 SEPTEMBER 24, 1997 An Informal Meeting was held by the Mayor and Council of the INFORMAL MEETING Borough of Carteret on Wednesday, September 24, 1997, Municipal Court/Police Facility, 230 Roosevelt Avenue, Carteret, New Jersey. The following were noted present: PRESENT Mayor Peter J. Sica Councilmember Bialowarczuk " DuPont " Failace " Feingold " Gutowski Noted absent was Councilmember Jack Fazekas. Also noted present was Borough Attorney Craig Coughlin and Potter Architects. Mailed to the Home News Tribune, The Star Ledger, and posted on the STATEMENT OF MEETING Bulletin Board on September 19, 1997. NOTICE Discuss architectural plans for the proposed library. PURPOSE OF THE MEETING A Representative from Potter Architects said basically they are DISCUSSION looking for directive. He said if the Borough could outline exactly what they want out of the project, it will take Potter about five (5) days to put together a very accurate budget. He said they would also like to know what is the exact budget. Mayor Sica said first thing we need to know is what is the Foodtown Building going to cost to revamp. He asked are they using that as a Library or a Senior Citizen Center. Councilmember DuPont said it will be a Library. Mayor Sica asked if they were going to make a Senior Citizen Center. Potter Representative said the Foodtown Building is the perfect size for the Library for a Community of this size. He said we have some (inaudible) layouts already worked out of the building. Mayor Sica said as of right now we have about two point six to two point seven million dollars left in that bond note. He said we anticipate selling the other piece of property for about a million (inaudible). He said he is being conservative, he thinks it will go for more. He said that would give us approximately three million dollars. Mayor Sica said out of that money we have to purchase the Foodtown and the other two pieces of property. He said that would leave us approximately two million dollars. Mayor Sica asked if we could do the whole Library Project for one million to one million and a half dollars. Potter Representative said he thinks they can. :PTEMBER 24, 1997 [SCUSSION ~ONTINUED) Mayor Sica said then lets give the Architects a ballpark figure to work with of one point five million dollars. Potter Representative asked if they would be separating the Library from the Senior Section on it. Mayor Sica said we will not be doing the Senior Section right away. Potter Representative said they would have three phases of the (inaudible). He said the first would be the Library, second would be the Common Vestibule, and third would be the Senior Center. Mayor Sica asked the Architect if he could work with two and a half million dollars. Potter Representative said they would take a look at the other two buildings and get back to the Mayor and Council within a week. Councilmember Failace asked when are we estimating going out to bid. Potter Representative said he would like to go to bid right after the holidays. He said the bid should be awarded by the beginning of February. DJOURNED There being no further business or discussion, upon MMS&C by Councilmembers Failace and Bialowarczuk and unanimous affirmative vote of the full membership present the meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:35 P.M.
