New Exhibit on Display at Thomas Balch Library
This month’s display features items saved from the Waxpool General Store.
Leesburg, VA (January 7, 2021) – A new exhibit from
Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum highlighting the Waxpool
General Store is on display at the Thomas Balch Library.
From its opening in the late 1800s until it closed in the 1940s,
the store was once the heart of the Waxpool community in
Ashburn. It also housed the local post office and voting
precinct.
Slated for demolition in the late 1990s, numerous items from
the store's interior were saved and donated to the Loudoun
Heritage Farm Museum along with thousands of records
from the Munday and Tillet families who ran the store.
Some of these items, along with original postcards, merchandise forms, postal, and voting
material are a part of the exhibit, which will run through January 28. It may be seen by
appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. Please
call 703-737-7195, email balchlib@leesburgva.gov, or visit
www.leesburgva.gov/libraryregistration.
