Town of Leesburg to Participate in “Severe Weather
Awareness Week”
The state-wide promotion will take place March 15 to 19, 2021.
Leesburg, VA (March 9, 2021) – The Town of Leesburg will participate in Severe Weather
Awareness Week, which will take place from March
15 to 19, 2021. This is the first-ever full week of
severe weather preparedness for the state, which is
being promoted by the National Weather Service
(NWS) and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Each day will focus on a different aspect of severe
weather to help increase awareness, preparedness,
and safety. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, March 15: Watches, Warnings, and
Preparedness
Tuesday, March 16: Tornados
Wednesday, March 17: Severe Thunderstorms
Thursday, March 18: Flash Floods
Friday, March 19: Lightning
Emergency Management Coordinator Joe Dame encourages residents to visit the Town’s
Facebook page each day to learn more about each topic.
“We’ll be providing viewers with new content every day, which will include more information
on Alert Loudoun and how to sign up for alerts, including a number of how-to videos, safety
tips, and Facebook Lives,” Dame said. “Our goal is to help prepare our residents in the event of
a weather emergency. We’ll also share what the Town does to prepare and cleanup following a
storm.”
The annual tornado drill will also be conducted on Tuesday, March 16 at 9:45 a.m. with a
backup date of March 17. The NWS encourages all residents, businesses, and schools to
participate.
