Leesburg Planning Commission Seeks Public Comment on
“Legacy Leesburg” Town Plan
A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
Leesburg, VA (March 24, 2021) – The Leesburg
Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on
the new Town Plan, “Legacy Leesburg”, on Thursday,
April 1 beginning at 7 p.m.
Staff recently made the first draft of the Town Plan
document available for public review and comment.
Residents can visit the project website to download
and review the document.
“Legacy Leesburg”, is intended to guide and shape the Town’s future for the next 20 years and
beyond. It is based on a series of guiding principles that will help manage growth and change
within the Town.
As a result, public input has been a critical component of this project. The upcoming public
hearing is open to all residents, business owners, and visitors who want to provide feedback on
the draft Town Plan document.
Legacy Leesburg represents a shift in the way of planning for the future. The current Town Plan
first adopted in 2012 is generally more prescriptive with respect to prescribing specific land
uses and development intensities while the proposed Legacy Leesburg Town Plan focuses on
character defining elements.
In considering the character, the overarching goal of the Legacy Leesburg Town Plan is to
identify the things that residents love about Leesburg and how to preserve and enhance those
things.
The Plan also focusses on finding ways to get more of the amenities and community character
elements residents want to see more of. The plan provides a series of guiding principles that
offers guidance on how future land uses can be best aligned with the community’s vision for
the future.
