The meeting came to order at 8:20 a.m. by Mitchell Woodrum. The April 19, 2019 meeting minutes were
reviewed and approved with a motion by Susan Cook-Williams and second by Missy Creed. The motion
passed 5-0.
New Business:
EER Event Update: This is on hold for now.
Jefferson City Youth Day Event Update: Susan Cook-Williams gave update. Alden Henderson with RACS
is the new Chair. A date has not been set.
Special Speaker Events and Future HRC Event: The group discussed a number of potential topics and
speakers. It was agreed the Commission will begin a quarterly speaker series. The first four are
suggested to cover disabilities, diversity, religions and LGBTQ. Missy has a contact with a disability
speaker.
Other Business:
Patsy Johnson brought up the need to educate Lincoln students on how to vote. She would like to see
the Commission do something during freshman orientation. There was discussion on how this would be
done. The need to educate high school students was also brought up. The group will continue to
explore this.
Jami Wade would like to see the HRC connect with a teacher at Jefferson City High School about starting
an Amnesty International Club or Global Initiatives Club.
Patsy Johnson updated the commission about the city-wide listening sessions with the police
department and Empower Missouri. The information from surveys has been compiled and will be e-
mailed to commissioners.
Public Comment:
Frank Rycyk announced the Capital Area Interfaith Alliance will hold an event on Unitarian Universalism
on Thursday June 27, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Also, the Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship of Jefferson City will host Don Love as the featured speaker on June 2, 2019 at
9:15 AM.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:15 a.m.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 21, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. in the Boone/Bancroft room at City Hall.
