Town of Leesburg Named Gold-Level “Fit-Friendly Worksite”
by the American Heart Association
Leesburg, VA (January 30, 2015) – The American Heart
Association recently recognized the Town of Leesburg
for its commitment to creating a healthy workplace by
designating the Town as a Gold-level “Fit-Friendly
Worksite.”
Workplaces have to demonstrate programs and
initiatives in four areas of health and wellness in order
to achieve the “Fit-Friendly Worksite” designation: Tobacco Policy, Physical Activity, Nutrition
and Culture.
Specific programs provided by the Town that contributed to the designation include offering
tobacco cessation resources to employees, encouraging employees to use stairs instead of
elevators through signage, offering free access to fitness classes and facilities at Ida Lee,
including healthy options in onsite vending machines, and providing CPR and first aid training to
employees.
“We recognize that health and wellness programs increase employee productivity and decrease
healthcare costs,” said Kaj Dentler, Leesburg’s Town Manager . “The Town is committed to
providing our employees with ways to lead healthier lifestyles both at work and at home.”
