McCarty St. Boone Bancroft Conference Room ATTENDEES: Commission members present: Raymond Lee, Missy Creed, Susan Cook-Williams, Jami Wade, Jane Barnes Commission members absent: Andria Hendricks, Hector Alonso, Mitchell Woodrum, Patsy Johnson Staff present: Gail Strope Others present: Ahnna Nanoski and Nicole Roberts (News Tribune) The meeting came to order at 8:08 a.m. by Raymond Lee. The June 21, 2019 meeting minutes were reviewed and approved with a motion by Susan Cook-Williams, second by Jami Wade. The motion passed 5-0. New Business: Special Speaking Event: Susan Cook-Williams is the chair of this project. She offered a proposal defining the purpose, target audience, publicity, structure and content, the venue, and necessary actions for successful planning of this. The first event for this Speaker Series will be on October 22, 2019 at the Linc. The guest speaker, Debra Alexander, is secured and Susan assigned subcommittees to address specifics related to logistics, marketing, and future plans. Jami Wade made a motion to move forward with these plans for the October event, second by Missy Creed. Motion passed 5-0. Comprehensive Plan Outreach: Ahnna Nanoski with the Department of Planning and Protective Services presented on behalf of the city a process to develop a comprehensive plan for development for the city. This plan was last created in 1996 and it will take about two years to develop the new plan. In order to meet the community needs, workshops will be held to gather input from citizens. A flyer was shared with commissioners with additional information and the dates of the workshops. Other Business: Lincoln University Student Voting Registration: Commissioners discussed ways to support current efforts to register students to vote. There is a new student orientation and the Blue Tiger Fest both held at the start of the school year. Commissioners discussed requesting the county clerk to assist with this process. Guest Speaker Request: Patsy Johnson requested via email that commissioners review the resume of a potential guest speaker to train and educate commissioners on diversity. Commissioners were unable to access the resume and this will be discussed at the next meeting. Bylaws Review and Compliance: Susan Cook-Williams inquired about commissioner attendance regarding the bylaws and the process of replacement if a commissioner is unable to consistently participate. The bylaws do not address membership attendance criteria. Gail Strope, city liaison, clarified for the commission that she should be in receipt of all emails shared among a majority of commissioners. Public Comment: There was no public comment. Adjournment: There being no further business, Raymond Lee made a motion to adjourn, second by Jami Wade which passed 5-0, ending the meeting at 8:58 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for August 16, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. in the Boone/Bancroft room at City Hall.
