Town Manager Kaj Dentler Presents Proposed FY 2016-2017
Budget to Leesburg Town Council
Leesburg, VA (February 26, 2015) – At the Leesburg Town Council meeting on Tuesday,
February 24, 2015, Leesburg Town Manager Kaj Dentler presented his proposed FY 2016-2017
biennial budget.
In his presentation, Dentler noted that the Town is financially sound and his proposed budget
meets all elements of the Town Council’s adopted fiscal policy.
“You should be very proud of having tackled difficult fiscal decisions, like doing a two -year
budget process,” Dentler told the Council. “Leesburg is a Triple -A bond rated community as a
result of your long-range financial planning.”
The proposed FY 2016-2017Budget includes no increase in the current real estate tax rate of
18.3¢ per $100 of assessed value. Since real estate assessments increased modestly over 2014,
average single family homeowners in Leesburg would see an increase of less than $22.00 in
their Leesburg tax bills, if the proposed tax rate is approved by the Town Council.
The largest change in the proposed budget from the current year will be the consolidation of
the departments of Public Works and Capital Projects into a single department. The merger will
create time- and money-saving efficiencies as the two departments have similar work
processes. Last year, Dentler combined the departments of Finance, Human Resources and
Information Technology into the new Department of Finance and Administrative Services for
similar reasons.
