A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
OPPOSING TF:E CLOSURE OF THE COMPTON EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT
DEPARTMENT (EDD)
WHEREAS, In an effort to close ins, budget gap, the State of California has
recommended that the Compton Employment Development Department (EDD) be
eliminated in 1996, and
WHEREAS, The rate of unemployment ;n this area is traditionally double that
of the State and of Los Angeles County; and
WHEREAS, there appears to be some unsettling and questionable criteria used
by the State of California to determine which EDD offices to close. Relevant
statistical data such as the unemployment rate, high school drop out rate, welfare
rate, and the physically challenged rate would appear to be the rnain criteria that
0ould be used to make serious choices like closing down facilities; and
WHEREAS, the closure of the Compton EDD office would cause undue hardship
on unemployed citizz ns in the City of 'Lynwood and surrounding cities.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lynwood does find, order,
proclaim and resolve as follows:
Section 1. The the Lynwood City Council hereby cpposes `; a ciczuae cf the
Compton Employment Development Department
' Section 2. That a certified copy of this resolution beforwarded to Governor
Pete Wilson.
Section 3. That a certified copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lieutenant
Governor Gray Davis, President of the Senate.
Section 4. That a certified copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Assemblywoman Doris Allen, Speaker of the State Assembly.
Section 5. That a certified copy of this resoultion be forwarded to Senator
Rp:ph D?Is area S Teresa Hughes.
Section 6. That a certifieJ copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Assema.yman Willard H. Murray, jr. and Assemblywoman Juanita McDonald.
Section 7. This resolution cakes effect immediately upon its adoption.
