Her artwork will be on display from March 6, 2015, through the end of May 2015. There will be an opening night reception with a coffee and dessert bar as part of Leesburg’s First Friday, on March 6, 2014, from 6pm to 9pm. The Leesburg Town Exhibit Hall is located on the first floor of the Leesburg Town Hall, at 25 West Market Street in downtown Leesburg. Laura Mazer’s first solo show, entitled “Observations Inside and Out”, reflects her interpretation of still-life arrangements and the changing seasonal landscape at Ida Lee Park. Her observations of the familiar highlights what she finds unique beyond the definition of each object or scene. For example, an orange sitting on a blue plate evokes a color dialogue between the objects and changes as light plays on both surfaces. Mazer's unique response is documented in the marks of her medium. The resulting textures of this visual thought process are occasionally included as a separate statement below the original work as seen in “Cherries on Turquoise Plate”. A product of Loudoun County Public Schools, Laura Mazer graduated from Park View High School in 1986. After earning a BA in Art Education with a concentration in painting and printmaking from Shepherd University, she received an MA in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. With over 25 years of teaching experience in both Fairfax and Loudoun County, she continues to educate children as a substitute art teacher. Mazer participates and has earned recognition for her pastel work in juried art shows at Oatland's Art Show at Oatland's Plantation and numerous shows at the former Visual Arts Center, Artsquare. She recently exhibited her work at the Loudoun Sketch Club's annual show at Hillsborough Vineyards and at Girdwood Art Gallery in Alaska. Mazer’s work can be seen in downtown Leesburg at Gigi's Salon and online on her Facebook page (www.facebook.com/lauramazerart).
