HomeMy Public PortalAboutAll Citizens Access -- 2016-09-16 Minutes Brewster All Citizens Access Committee Minutes of the meeting on September 16, 2016 Brewster Council on Aging 3:00 pm Present: Cindy Bingham,Joan Carstenjen, Claire Gradone,Judy Miller, Roberta Murphy and Denise Rego. Guest: Jim O'Leary Meeting began at 3:06pm. i April 15, 2016 minutes were approved with 1 correction. i Chairperson's Report: Claire welcomed everyone back from summer break. Claire asked Jim O'Leary(guest) if he would be interested in becoming a board member. He agreed and Denise gave him the appropriate form to fill out and submit to the Selectmen's Office. Phase 1 of the installation of automatic doors at the Captain's Golf Course has been completed. Phase 11 is on the Fall's Town Warrant. 3 Paine's Creek: Still no viewing platform or shed. Jim mentioned that the approved money l from the Spring Town Meeting needs to be protected to complete this job, Denise to ask Chris Miller to attend our next meeting to give us an update on accessible projects. The construction of 2 beach wheelchair shed at 2 different beaches would help for next summer's tourist, as the Council on Aging staff might be housed in a different building during the construction of the new fire station. Americorp?? Braille trail?7 Cindy mentioned that it would be helpful to have mats or blacktop up to the handicap portable bathrooms at beaches. 3 Ellen Ojala - Brewster Recreation Director: Ellen informed us that with funding from GPC, a Freeman's Way ballfield will be handicapped accessible. There is a road to the left of the main entrance that brings you to the back side of that ballfield and a path to a viewing area and a path to the dugout will be constructed this fall. This ballfield is used for middle school students and by adults. Jim ask that Ellen put this information on the Town's website when complete, Denise mentioned signage to direct people to his new accessible area. i i i There is a concession area on the right side of the park. They are looking at having a car access to a platform,which will allow viewing of the 2 ballfields and use of the concession area. Recreation deals with handicapped students thru regional programs. Stony Brook School has an accessible playground. Recreation has not been involved with Special Olympics. Town Meeting&,Elections: Claire will remind Chief Koch regarding handicapped parking and accessibility. The Council on Aging will be providing transportation. Jayanne in the Town Clerks Office told Denise that registered citizens can go into the office to vote between October 24th and November 401. Sidewalk Project; Jim mentioned that there are 2 areas that have telephone polls in the middle of the sidewalks (across from general store and in the Strawberry Patch/Immaculate Conception church areas). Claire will speak with Patrick Ellis regarding =i this issue. The reason that the sidewalks switch from one side to the other is due to E wetland issues, i Claire to invite CORD to our November meeting. i Monday, September 19 - Coastal Meeting from 5-9pm at Town Hall.
