September 16, 2016 minutes were approved. Chairperson's Report: Chris Miller: Chris reported that the vendor involved with the purchase of a roll out mat for Paine's Creek did not respond to his request. He will research other vendors to make this project happen. He will also look into temperature ratings and the lifespan of these mats. The money for this purchase was already appropriated. Current mats at other sites to be brought in for the winter. Judy mentioned that there needs to be a better transition from pavement to the portable potties. Maybe DPW could pour some concrete or install a portable plate to make it truly handicap accessible. Braille Trail: Claire mentioned that Quivert Creek might be a good place for this type of trail. Chris mentioned that Drummer Boy Park and/or Upper Mill Pond would be a good places,as it could tie into the children's playground area and birds and water sounds. Claire to contact the Mass Commission of the Blind to see if they have any information and possibly any trail grants. Sidewalks with poles: To recap, there are several places that the telephone poles are in the middle of our sidewalks. This does not allow full accessibility for a handicapped person. E Patrick Ellis, our DPW Director, along with Tim Whelan, our state representative, are involved with this issue. Chris feels that it would be very costly for the state contractor to rectify this problem. Chris suggested that maybe the sidewalks could be extended around these poles. DPW also sees these poles, which are located close to the road, to be a safety issue and they might be problematic during snow plow season Pastor James Braun, from the Trinity Lutheran Church, has written us a letter asking for guidance to make his facility more accessible. They are looking at ramps to doors and i E i bathroom accessibility. Claire will check the ADA codes and reply to him. There is no penalty to better the building. Jim indicated that$20,000.A year is voted on to help with accessibility issues, !st phase of Golf Course project is done and the 2nd phase is on the warrant. Denise will find an alternate meeting room to begin in December, as the administrative offices of the Council on Aging will be moving out of their current building. Claire to invite CORD to our November meeting. Meeting adjourned at 3;03 pm.
