HomeMy Public PortalAbout2688-1972 - Replacing the 1965 Fire Prevention CodeAMENDED ORDINANCE NO. 2588-1972 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2241-1966, AND REPLACING THE 1965 FIRE PR£YENTIOi' CODE AS RECOMMENDED BY THE AMERICAN INSURANCE ASSOCIATION WITH THE 1970 FIRE PREVENTION CODE AS RECOMMENDED BY THE AMERICAN INSURANCE ASSOCIATION. WHEREAS, the 1965 Edition of the Fire Prevention Code as recommended by the American Insurance Association has been superceded by the 1970 Fire Prevention Code as recom- mended by said American Insurance Association; and WHEREAS, the Bureau of Fire Prevention has recommended that it is in the public interest that the 1970 Edition be enacted as the Code to be enforced by the Bureau of Fire Prevention; NOW THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, that: SECTION ONE. SECTION 1 of Ordinance No. 2241-1966 be amended to read as follows: ADOPTION OF FIRE PREVENTION CODE There is hereby adopted by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire and explosion, that certain code known as the Fire Prevention Code recommended by the American Insurance Association, being particularly the 1970 edition thereof with such revisions as are set out in Section Two of this Ordinance, of which code not less than three (3) copies have been and now are filed in the Office of the Clerk of the City of Richmond, Indiana, and the Sean are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein and from the date on which this ordinance shall take effect, the provision thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the City of Richmond, Indiana. SECTION TWO. The 1970 Fire Prevention Code, as adopted by this Ordinance be revised such that: APPENDIX B, ABANDONMENT OR REMOVAL OF UNDERGROUND TANKS, Part Three - Tanks Rendered Temporarily out of Service, shall now read: a. With tanks rendered "temporarily out of service", (1) The fill line, gage opening, and pump suction shall be capped and secured against tampering. (2) The vent line shall be left open. 3 Tanks shall be temporarily filled with water and carbon -tetra- chloride with a ratio of one quart carbon tetrachloride to every five hundred gallons of water. SECTION THREE.
