HomeMy Public PortalAbout95-167 (11-07-95)RESOLUTION NO. 95 -167 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD APPROVING THE LONG BEACH BLVD SAFETY /BEAUTIFICATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO MAKE THE NECESSARY FUND APPROPRIATIONS AND TRANSFERS. WHEREAS, due to recurring resident complaints regarding school children /pedestrian crossing safety at the intersection of Long Beach Blvd and Louise Street, the City Council requested that safety issues for this intersection be reviewed; and WHEREAS, existing median islands Long Blvd. between Josephine StreetandMulfordAve. are not Beach landscaped in contrast to all the other median islands on Long Beach Blvd.; and WHEREAS, the extension of the existing median island on Long Beach Blvd. across Louise Street and the construction of a pedestrian fence on the median island from Josephine Street to Lynwood Road is an appropriate way to resolve pedestrian safety issues at this location; and WHEREAS, Caltrans has been contacted to install pedestrian signals, cross walks, signs, etc. on the existing traffic signals at the on /off ramps on the north and south sides of the I -105 Fwy on Long Beach Blvd.; and ' WHEREAS, a project entitled the Long Beach Blvd. Safety /Beautification Improvement Project has been proposed to address the pedestrian /traffic safety and the landscaping of the median islands; and WHEREAS, the Traffic and Parking Commission has reviewed the proposed Long Beach Blvd. Safety /Beautification Improvement Project and recommends its implementation; and WHEREAS, funding sources for the project have been have been reviewed and the only available funding source identified is Lynwood Redevelopment Agency funds. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council does hereby resolve, order, and determine as follows: Section 1 . That the Long Beach Blvd Safety /Beautification Improvement Project is approved. Section 2 . That the City Council authorize the City Manager or his designee to make the following fund transfers and appropriations: ' From To Unappropriated Long Beach Blvd. Safety/ Redevelopment Agency funds Beautification Improvement (Project Area "A ") Project $292,000 $292,000 Section 3.
