Middleburg Bank Makes Donation to Friends of Leesburg
Public Art for Sculpture Garden in Raflo Park
Leesburg, VA (March 20, 2015)
– At the Town Council meeting
on February 24, 2015,
Middleburg Bank president
Gary Shook presented the
Friends of Leesburg Public Arts
(FOLPA) with a check for
$6,500. Middleburg Bank
donated the money for a new
sculpture garden that will be
installed along Harrison Street
in Raflo Park.
“We are very pleased to be a
part of this project,” said Mr.
Shook. “Especially since the
new sculpture garden will be
located across Harrison Street
from our flagship location in Leesburg.”
The proposed sculpture garden will feature six pieces of art, to be selected by the Leesburg
Commission on Public Art and the Friends of Leesburg Public Arts, that will be installed for one
year. At the end of the year, the sculptures will be available for sale and another six sculptures
will be installed.
Through a proffer related to the approval of the Crescent Place development now under
construction on Harrison Street across from Raflo Park, Lansdowne Development Corporation
will install a walking path and concrete pads for the sculptures. In addition to the installation
costs, the Middleburg Bank donation will also fund signage at either end of the sculpture
garden.
The Leesburg Commission on Public Art and FOLPA anticipate issuing a call for artist
submissions in early 2016, with the opening of the sculpture garden planned for later that year.
