HomeMy Public PortalAbout96-078 (05-22-96)RESOLUTION NO. 96 -78 "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DESIGNATING ALAMEDA STREET AS THE RON BROWN GLOBAL TRADE CORRIDOR ". WHEREAS, Secretary of Commerce Rob Brown had the vision of transforming the United States Department of Commerce into a critical catalyst for global a trade economy; and WHEREAS, Secretary Brown was concerned with the creation of domestic job opportunities through international trade; and WHEREAS, Secretary Brown understood the connection between economic stability and world peace and sought to use his position to promote world peace through effective and creative trade relationships; and WHEREAS, Secretary Brown helped to not only promote United States exports abroad, but created a positive influence in the area of foreign policy and helped to user in a new era of "Commercial Diplomacy "; and WHEREAS, Secretary Brown championed technology as a critical ingredient for success in the global marketplace by creating over 220 public - private partnerships through the Advanced Technology Program; and WHEREAS, Secretary Brown, among other things, streamlined export controls up more than $32 billion in exports from unnecessary regulation, rebuilt depleted fisheries, boosted the export of environmental technologies, and modernized the national weather service, systems; and ' WHEREAS, global trade is recognized as a key element of job creation and economic opportunity throughout Southern California; and WHEREAS, Alameda Street is now regarded as one of the most important global trade corridors in the world; and WHEREAS, in April, 1996, Secretary Ron Brown lost his life in pursuit of the cause of world peace through fairness in global trade. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That Alameda Street shall be designated the Ron Brown Global Trade Corridor. Section 2. That Cities along the so called Alameda Corridor and the County of Los Angeles be encouraged to designate Alameda Street as the Ron Brown Global Trade Corridor. Section 3. That the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority be encouraged to take action to designate the Alameda Corridor the Ron Brown Global Trade Corridor. Section 4. That the South East Cities Transportation Authority be encouraged to take action to designate the Alameda Corridor as the Ron Brown Global Trade Corridor. 11 Section 5. That copies of this resolution be filed with the offices of the City Clerk, the City Manager, the City Council, President of the United States, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Congress, Governor, State Senate, State Assembly and transmitted to other entities as may be deemed appropriate to foster the spirit of this resolution.
