A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LYNWOOD SUPPORTING THE
COMMUNITY 10,000 MARROW DONOR EDUCATION
PROGRAM
WHEREAS, Community 10,000 is a community based
' organization formed under the umbrella of the Lynwood Community Partnership
to educate the community on the importance of participating in the marrow donor
program; and
WHEREAS, statistics show that of the two million donors currently
on the registry minority registration is only 7.1 % for African Americans, 6.5% for
Hispanics, and 1.2% for American Indians; and
WHEREAS, statistics clearly state the need for a grass roots
educational campaign to encourage participation by minorities; and
WHEREAS, only about 30% of patients seeking marrow donors
find a match within their families; and
WHEREAS, patients are most likely to find a marrow match within
their own race; and
WHEREAS, becoming a potential marrow donor is easy.
Requiring just a simple blood test.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lynwood does
' hereby support and participate in the massive educational campaign of the
Community 10,000 Marrow Donor program.
Section 1. That the Lynwood City Council adopt the above
resolution and forward copies to President Bill Clinton, Senator Teresa Hughes,
Congresswoman Juanita McDonald, Assemblyman Willard Murray, and
Assemblyman Elect Carl Washington.
