HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2015-04-15 tax rate and budget adoption Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Leesburg Town Council Adopts FY 2016-2017 Budget, Maintains Real Estate Tax Rate at 18.3¢ Leesburg, VA (April 15, 2015) – On Tuesday, April 14, 2015, the Leesburg Town Council adopted the FY 2016-2017 Budget, and the FY 2016-2021 Capital Improvement Program. The real estate tax rate was adopted by Council at the Public Hearing on Monday, April 13, 2015. The Council maintained the real estate tax rate at 18.3¢ per $100 of assessed value. Based on the 2015 assessments, the average single family homeowner in Leesburg will have a modest increase – less than $22.00 – in their Leesburg tax bill. The adopted FY 2016-2017 Budget contains no new full-time positions in the General Fund, but does include three new positions in the Utilities Fund which will be offset in future years by additional revenue from the sale of reclaimed water. Other changes from the current year budget include the merger of the departments of Public Works and Capital Projects, additional Police Department funding for investigations and community policing efforts, scoping studies for future capital improvement projects, and new investments in technology for internal operations. The FY 2016-2021 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) includes 34 projects, totaling $88.8 million over the six years of the program. Projects added or accelerated in the CIP include renovation of the Catoctin Skate Park, a crosswalk at Battlefield Parkway and Route 15 Bypass, and the extension of Hope Parkway from Whipp Drive to Miller Drive. The newly-adopted FY 2016-2017 Budget and the FY 2016-2021 Capital Improvements Program will soon be available for download from the Town’s website at www.leesburgva.gov/budget.
