Residents, meet “Sweeping Beauty”:
We recently conducted a poll on Facebook to
help us name our street sweeper! “Sweeping
Beauty” had a narrow win over “Sweep
Caroline”.
Recently, Brian Ballard took advantage of our
Spring-like weather and took Sweeping Beauty
out for her inaugural run!
Mayor’s Monthly Question:
City Hall has now been fully staffed for 3 months! Do you have any feed-
back on City services over the past 3 months? And, are there any critical
tasks we should be focusing on that currently aren’t being addressed?
Send your responses to: mayor@riverdaleia.org
Having been in business since 1902, Boyler’s Ornamental Iron has made
their home in Riverdale since 1975! Boyler’s produces some of the best
quality metalwork in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas. From gates,
fences, and railings, to restorations and stairways, they can do it all!
Boyler’s has always been a family business. Started by Frank Boyler, the first business was a blacksmith
shop in East Davenport. Frank also opened The Old Fashioned Inn Tavern which was located next to the
original shop. Richard Boyler then took over in 1949 and eventually moved the business to Riverdale!
Richard is also credited with the shift into primarily focusing on ornamental iron. The 3rd generation
(Bruce, Mike, and Doug) has recently retired and the business is now being led by 4th generation,
Stephen Boyler!
One of the projects the 3 brothers are most proud of is fabricating bronze
gates for a Frank Lloyd Wright restoration in Mason City, Iowa (shown to
the right). They were able to actually use one of Frank Lloyd Wright ’s origi-
nal architectural drawings to create their fabrications! Boyler’s received the
Mitch Heitler Award for Excellence — the industry's highest award for
craftsmanship. The project features no welds; they used methods of fabrica-
tion and joinery that were true to the original time period.
(Some information gathered from “Wright on the Park” Facebook page.)
You can find Boyler’s

•The spring flood risk is well above normal for the Mississippi and near
normal for tributary rivers in the NWS Quad Cities Hydrologic Service Area.
•The flooding threat is above average for all points along the Mississippi River,
and near average on the Iowa, Cedar, Des Moines, Wapsipinicon, Rock, La
Moine, Pecatonica, and Fox Rivers.
•The rate of the snowmelt, additional snowfall, and heavy spring rains will be
the main factors in whether or not spring flooding occurs, and how severe it
would be.

2023 Probabilistic Spring Flood Outlook #3 Update:
March 9, 2023
Contact the NWS Quad Cities Hydro Team at cr.dvn-hydro@noaa.gov
Bottom Line:
•Rivers with the highest probability for flooding are watersheds with a deep
snowpack and the Mississippi River near.
•Chances are highest for Minor flooding to occur this season, where additional
spring moisture would be needed for more extreme flooding to occur.
•Snowmelt will be primary driver for spring flooding, with spring precipitation
being a high contributor.
•Soils have capacity for moisture once the ground thaws to reduce runoff.
•The rate of snowmelt will be essential to the occurrence of flooding.
