HomeMy Public PortalAbout20141208 - Parks & Recreation - Meeting Minutes TOWN OF HOPKINTON PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES TOWN HALL, 18 MAIN STREET, [3rd floor] Monday December 8, 2014 7:02 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:02 by Chairman Bob Dobinski. Present was the Parks & Recreation Commission, and Kevin Nathan and Colleen Allen. Drew Logan & Dave Gibbs of the LMPA, and Tim Kilduff were also in attendance. 7:06 APPROVAL OF MINUTES The Commission approved the Minutes from the following Parks and Recreation Meeting: 12/1/14. 7:10 LMPA PRESENTATION Drew Logan and Dave Gibbs from the LMPA (Lake Maspenock Preservation Association) briefed the Commission about the erupting problem concerning uncontrolled weed growth in Lake Maspenock. Dave Gibbs spoke about his contact with ACT (Aquatic Control Technology), a wetland preservation firm. There were different methods mentioned to treat the growth: -Spot treatment -pesticide Drew Logan spoke of desire for LMPA to raise funds from shoreline residents to solve problem, but LMPA would like assistance from Parks & Recreation due to our Sandy Beach’s location on Lake Maspenock. Chairman Bob Dobinski expressed Parks and Recreation’s support. It was the consensus of the Commission to get more information (further studies/ time to talk about involvement) before undertaking new project. 7:51 26.2 FOUNDATION Tim Kilduff unveiled plans for international marathon center to be developed in Legacy Farms. Facility would include track, trails, pool, pond, & reflection garden. Conservative estimates ranged from 45- 50 million dollars. Parks & Recreation was in overwhelming support. Amy Markovich put forth a motion to embrace partnership and collaborative efforts. Dan Terry seconded the motion The vote was 5 in favor and 0 opposed. 8:18 CPC PRIORITIZATION Per conversation with CPC Commission, it was determined that CPC funds will not cover a gymnasium structure. Action: Eric Sonnett will go to the State when he has a better grasp on building specifics. Fruit Street structure will have first aid station in case of emergency. Parking will also be included in -Victory Fields is within in Phase 1 of town’s well water supply. Town law does not permit building on top of wells. Victory field discussion was postponed. 8:44 Employment Discussion The second round of interviews will begin. Dan Terry and Amy Markovich will be interviewing party.
