HomeMy Public PortalAbout20210216 - Design Review Board - MinutesTOWN OF HOPKINTON DESIGN REVIEW BOARD Minutes Tuesday, February 16, 2020 7:00 PM Members Present: Jeanette Thomson, Deb Fein-Brug,Sue-Ellen Stoddard, Greg Maze, Amy Ritterbusch, Ria McNamara, Jeffrey Doherty Members Absent: None Also Present: John Gelcich, Principal Planner; Ellen Scanlon; Marc Pillsbury Ms. Thomson called the meeting to order at 7:08 PM. Ms. Thomson read through the remote meeting script. 1.8A Lumber Street - Sign Application - Harbor to Hill Seafood Marc Pillsbury presented the proposed sign for 8A Lumber Street. Ms. Thomson asked if it was made out of PVC. Mr.Pillsbury said it will be vinyl, though some of it will be raised, but most will be flat. Mr. Maze asked about the lettering being raised.Mr. Pillsbury said the letters and anchor will be 1-inch thick. Ms. Thomson asked if there will be any proposed lighting.Mr. Pillsbury said the lighting is pre-existing. He said the lighting may not work for the sign, but currently, that is the plan for lighting. The sign will be located above the light. Ms. Thomson said the sign looks nice on the building.Ms. Ritterbusch agreed. Ms. Ritterbusch suggested that the all-caps and cursive lettering may be hard to read. Mr. Pillsbury said the applicant insisted on the design, despite his suggestions for different options. Mr. Maze said the light may be a problem and should be a better light so the sign can be seen from the road. Ms. McNamara said the DRB may want to recommend gooseneck lighting but not require it. The Board generally discussed the lighting. Ms. McNamara moved to recommend approval of the sign as designed. Ms. Stoddard seconded the motion. The Board voted unanimously to approve the sign (5-0-0). 2.76 Main Street - Sign Application - Pyne Nutrition Mr. Gelcich clarified that the Historic District Commission has jurisdiction over this sign since it is within a historic district and does not need to come before the Design Review Board. 3.229 Hayden Rowe - Minor Site Plan - Cornell’s Irish Pub Ellen Scanlon presented the proposed modifications to the site. Mr. Gelcich gave a brief overview of what is being done on the site. Ms. Thomson asked if the six-foot fence is a stockade fence. Ms. Scanlon said it is the typical vinyl privacy fence. Ms. Scanlon said it is the same fencing on-site already. Ms. Thomson asked if the string lighting will be attached to the fence. Ms. Scanlon said yes. Ms. Scanlon said there will be three emergency entrances.All patrons must enter through the main entrance. Ms. Scanlon also said there will be bollards in front of each parking spot. Ms. McNamara asked if there will be umbrellas outside.Ms. Scanlon said there will be tents installed. Ms. Fein-Brug asked if the existing fencing will be repaired at the same time as the fence will be installed. Mr. Doherty arrived at this time. Ms. Scanlon said she thinks the fencing is in good condition. She said the temporary fencing was in worse condition and will be replaced. Ms. Ritterbusch said she is glad the bollards will be a good addition. She also liked the string lighting as an alternative. Ms. Stoddard moved to recommend approval of the site plan. Ms. Fein-Brug seconded the motion. The Board voted 4-0-1 to approve the motion. 4.Minutes of December 15, 2020 Ms. Fein-Brug moved to approve the minutes as written.Ms. Thomson seconded the motion. The Board voted unanimously (5-0-0) to approve the minutes as written. The Board discussed the date of the next meeting. Ms. Thomson moved to adjourn. Ms. Fein-Brug seconded the motion. The Board voted unanimously (5-0-0) to approve the motion.Meeting adjourned at 7:31 PM.
