Mervin Jackson Park Ribbon Cutting Set for Saturday, April 25,
2015
Leesburg, VA (April 21, 2015) – Town of
Leesburg officials will hold a ribbon cutting
ceremony for the opening of Mervin Jackson
Park on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 10:00
a.m. The new park is located on the south
side of the Town Hall Parking Garage, 14 W.
Loudoun Street.
The park is named after the late Vice Mayor
Mervin Jackson. He was an active and
respected member of the Leesburg
Community. He served on the Town Council
from 1999 to 2004, and held the seat as Vice Mayor from 2002 to 2004. Mr. Jackson was a
member of the Planning Commission from 1975-1999, and Chair of the Planning Commission
from 1989 – 1998.
The ceremony will include a few remarks by Vernith Brooks, Mervin and Jean Jackson’s
grandson, as well as Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd.
The park and its amenities were completed through the support of Leesburg Town Council and
the hard work in its construction by the staffs of the Department of Public Works, Parks and
Recreation Department and Utilities Department.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held rain or shine.
