PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in January 2022, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) announced that girls
wrestling would be a sanctioned sport in high school beginning in 2022; and,
WHEREAS, the Pleasant Valley High School Girls Wrestling was formed and had 11 girls join for the
inaugural season, of which 7 of those girls won at least one tournament in their weight bracket; and,
WHEREAS, the team won two tournaments in their inaugural year, the DeWitt Invite and the Midland
Girls Invite; and,
WHEREAS, the team placed in the top three teams in three additional tournaments during the season;
and,
WHEREAS, during their inaugural regular season, the team never placed lower than sixth in any event;
and,
WHEREAS, the team placed 11th of 25 teams in the Super Regional 6 and 30th of 157 teams at State; and,
WHEREAS, the team scored a total of 1271.5 team points, had 279 individual wins, and a total of 171
pins; and,
WHEREAS, team member Abigail Meyrer won the inaugural girls wrestling state championship at the
120 pound weight class and team member Caitlin Reiter also made a strong run at the state tournament,
having to medically withdraw after suffering an injury in the quarter finals.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby
proclaim the week of March 19t" through March 25th as

in Riverdale, and encourage staff, residents, and visitors to join me in celebrating a fantastic inaugural
season and what we hope will be many more to come.
