PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in January 2022, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) announced that girls
wrestling would be a sanctioned sport in high school beginning in 2022; and,
WHEREAS, Abigail Meyrer had a long history of wrestling at the club level prior to the sanctioning of
girls wrestling in high school;
WHEREAS, Meyrer, a Freshman, joined the inaugural Pleasant Valley High School girls wrestling team in
2022, wrestling at the 120 pound weight class; and,
WHEREAS, Meyrer earned 2nd place in her first ever tournament, and then proceeded to win her next 45
matches, winning 9 regular season tournaments, and Super Regional Qualifier 6; and,
WHEREAS, Meyrer finished the season with a 47-1 record, and her sole loss was her second match of the
season to the wrestler who ultimately won state in the 125 pound weight class; and,
WHEREAS, of her 47 wins, Meyrer had 40 falls, 1 technical fall, 2 major decisions, and 3 decisions, and
she scored 279.5 team points throughout the season; and,
WHEREAS, Meyrer participated in the IGHSAU State Championship at Xtreme Arena in Iowa City on
February 2, 2023, earning four pins amongst five victories at the state championship match; and,
WHEREAS, Meyrer won the inaugural girls wrestling state championship at the 120 pound weight class.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby
proclaim March 14th as
