A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD OPPOSING SENATE BILL 567 AND URGING THE
CITY'S STATE ASSEMBLY REPRESENTATIVE AND SENATOR
TO OPPOSE THIS BILL

WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood and its interests are represented on the
Metropolitan Transportation Authority, commonly known as the MTA, by a
representative from the League of California Cities and by our County Supervisor who is
elected by the people of Lynwood to represent their interests; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 567 sponsored by Senator Polanco would remove from
the MTA Board of Directors the county-wide elected County Supervisors and thereby
severely reduce the elected representation of the people of Lynwood on that Board; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 567 would also reduce the representatives appointed by
the Los Angeles County City Selection Committee of which the City of Lynwood is a
member; and
WHEREAS, such a diminishment of representation can only create a negative
impact on the quality and level of transportation services the citizens of Lynwood can
expect to receive from the MTA;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE,
DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOW:
SECTION 1. That the City Council hereby adopt an "opposed" position to SB
567 and strenuously urge Senator Teresa Hughes and Assemblyman Carl Washington,
on behalf of their constituents in Lynwood, to vigorously oppose this Bill.
SECTION 2. In the event that our representatives are unsuccessful in their
efforts to defeat this Bill, the City Council urge our State Assembly Representative and
Senator to encourage the Governor to veto Senate Bill 567 .
