HomeMy Public PortalAbout98-013 (01-20-98)RESOLUTION N0. 9$-13 LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD AUTHORIZING THE TERMINATION OF THE AGREEMENT WITH THE LYNWOOD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP RELATIVE TO THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT TO THE BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE A REDISTRIBUTION OF THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS ~ WHEREAS, the City is a recipient of the federal funds under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program (LLEBG); and WHEREAS, the purpose of the LLEBG Program is to provide local governments with funds to undenvrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety; and WHEREAS, the City Council awarded the Lynwood Community Partnership (LCP) $100,000 to implement crime prevention programs; and WHEREAS, on September 2, 1997, the City Council approved an Agreement with the LCP to implement crime prevention programs with an allocation of $77,621 of block grant funds; and WHEREAS, the City Council reconsidered the effective use of the LLEBG funds and approved a redistribution of such funds to enhance enforcement services; WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 10 of the Agreement with the LCP, the City Council may terminate the Agreement without cause by giving ffteen (15) days written notice to the LCP of such termination and specifying the effective date; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOW: SECTION 1. That the City Council authorize the termination of the Agreement with the Lynwood Community Partnership and direct the City Manager to give a written notice to the ~ynwood Community Partnership specifying February 5, 1998 as the effective date of such termination. , SECTION 2. That the City Council authorize the City Manager to notify the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the redistribution of the 1996 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds. SECTION 3. That the City Council authorize the City Manager to use the remaining estimated amount of $70,000 or unused funds from the LCP's program and the vehicle purchase and equipment program to contract with the Sheriffs Department for two (2) Community Service Officers and to extend the Bike Patrol program for the months of February, March and mid April 1998. SECTION 4. This Resolution is effedive immediately upon its adoption.
