A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD ESTABLISHING A CITYWIDE CLEANUP DAY
INVOLVING THE PARTICIPATION OF VOLUNTEERS AND THE
APPROPRIATION OF $4,870 FOR THIS EVENT
~ WHEREAS, from time to time the City or community residents sponsor cleanup
projects to improve neighborhood and business districts; and
WHEREAS, despite City and residents' efforts to cieanup the community, there
remains pockets of public areas, abandoned lots, and privately owned properties that
are full of debris, trash, weeds, and graffiti; and
WHEREAS, the physical condition of neighborhood and business districts
conveys ownership, care, and purposeful maintenance and signals whether offenders
shouid consider the area vulnerabie to victimization by crime, violence, and drug
traffcking; and
WHEREAS, citywide cleanup day with a strong participation from the community
members can remove litter and debris and paint out graffiti, but more important, build a
sense of ownership and empowerment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE,
DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOW:

SECTION 1. That the City Council establish a Citywide Cleanup day on April
18, 1998 involving the participation volunteers.
SECTION 2. That the City Council authorizes the appropriation of $4,870 from
the unappropriated general fund and/or Used Oil Block Grant moneys t fund this event.
SECTION 3. That this resolution shail take effect immediately upon its
adoption.
