What it actually does is offer additional homestead exemption if your property is reassessed. The exemption freeze for homesteaded property applies to the portion of your tax bill that funds all taxing jurisdictions except the State of Georgia one - quarter mill. If you have homestead /Stephens Day, your ad valorem tax bill will be based on the lower of SD or the fair market value. The amount of your ad valorem tax bill for this year will be based on the appraised and assessed values specified in this notice. You have the right to appeal these values to the County Board of Tax Assessors followed by an appeal to the County Board of Equalization or to Arbitration.
