Arsenal of Democracy: World War II Victory Capitol Flyover
Set for Friday, May 8, 2015
Leesburg, VA (May 7, 2015) – Friday, May 8, 2015 marks the 70th Anniversary of Victory in
Europe (VE) Day. To honor the heroes who fought in the War and those on the home front, one
of the most diverse arrays of World War II aircraft ever assembled will fly above the skies of the
Washington, DC metro area. The formation will begin over western Loudoun County at
approximately 11:30am. From there, aircraft will fly along the Potomac River to the National
Mall in Washington DC. Keep an eye out as the historic aircraft fly over the skies of Leesburg.
The first formation will arrive over the Lincoln Memorial at 12:10pm. The formations will
represent the World War II’s major battles, from Pearl Harbor through the final air assault in
Japan, and concluding with a missing man formation to “Taps.”
The event is weather dependent.
