HomeMy Public PortalAbout2023 0411 PV Girls Basketball DayCITY OF VERDI, `LIE PROCL TT O N WHEREAS, the Pleasant Valley High School girls basketball team ("team") is a member of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) and is ranked as a 5A team; and, WHEREAS, the team is a member of the Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC); is the 2022/2023 MAC champions with a record of 18-0, bringing home the school's first back-to-back MAC championship since 1994; and is the first MAC school to win a "big" school state title since 1994; and, WHEREAS, the team finished the 2022/2023 season with a 26-0 record, the best record in the school's history, with an undefeated home court record of 12-0 and ranked first in the state in 5A; and, WHEREAS, five out of 26 games were single -digit wins; 29.1 points were allowed (first in class 5A and a school record); the team scored a 75.6% free throw average (first in class 5A and a school record); finished the season with 394 total assists (first in class 5A); and had 417 steals (first in class 5A); and, WHEREAS, several team members received honors and recognition: r� Addy Maurer (sophomore): Honorable Mention AII-Conference Quinn Vice (sophomore): Honorable Mention AII-Conference y Reagan Pagniano (sophomore): 2nd Team Ail -Conference; All Region Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA); All District ; 2nd Team All -State IGCA; broke school record with 102 assists r Jess Clemons (junior): 2nd. Team AII-Conference; 3rd Team All -State IPSWA; broke school record with 110 steals; All -Tournament Team at the state tournament Halle Vice (senior): 1st Team AII-Conference; MAC Player of the Year; IGCA AII-District; IGCA All -Region; IGCA 1st Team All -State; IPSWA 1st Team All -State; first PV girls basketball player to be named Captain of the All -Tournament Team at the state tournament; Des Moines Register Elite Team 2023; Gatorade Player of the Year Finalist 2023; finished her career with 1,399 points, 321 rebounds, 173 assists, and 252 steals WHEREAS, the team made a state tournament appearance for the fourth time in the school's five -on -five history, and on March 3, 2023, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, the team secured its first ever 5A state championship victory against the defending champion Johnston Dragons with a final score of 59 to 56. THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby proclaim April 11th as PLEASANT VALLEY Y GIRLS BASKETBALL DAY in Riverdale, and encourage staff, residents, and visitors to join me in congratulating the Pleasant Valley girls basketball team for their hard work, dedication, and achievements, [seal] Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor City of Riverdale, Iowa
