Leesburg Document Shredding Event A Success
Leesburg, VA (May 8, 2015) –The Town of Leesburg’s Public Works Department hosted a free
document shredding event on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Heritage High School in Leesburg. A
record number 536 participants turned out for the event and brought more than 18,000lbs of
sensitive documents and paperwork which were shredded for recycling. Beginning in 2008, the
shred events have served 4,230 citizens and collected over 78 tons of shredded and recyclable
material.
Every year, millions of Americans become the victims of identity theft. Documents with
sensitive information tossed into trash cans, recycling containers and public disposal locations
are among the most common sources of information used by identity thiev es. In an effort to
reduce identity theft and to promote recycling, the Leesburg Public Works Department offers
semiannual free community document shredding events. The next event is scheduled to be
held in the fall 2015. You can sign up for the Public Works Department ListServ to receive news,
alerts, and special event information.
Please contact the Public Works Department at 703-771-2790 or email trash@leesburgva.gov if
