Did you know Riverdale has a couple of ordinances regarding nuisance barking?
Chapter 55, Subsection 55.08- It is unlawful for the owner of a dog to allow or
permit such dog to cause serious annoyance or disturbance to any person or
persons by frequent or habitual howling, yelping, barking, or otherwise.
Chapter 53, Subsection 53.05 #5- Animals: Owning, keeping, possessing, or
harboring any animal or animals which, by frequent or habitual noise making,
violates Section 53.06 or causes a noise disturbance.
While these ordinances apply any time of day, we would really like to ask for
diligence in this matter during overnight hours in particular. Riverdale overnight hours are from 8p to 7a (Chapter
53, subsection 53.06).
A good neighbor is a priceless treasure. Thank you for being a good neighbor!

With locations on 3 continents, 9 countries, and 12 states, it is no secret that Arconic is a powerhouse.
And the Arconic Davenport Works is located right here in Riverdale! “Arconic Davenport Works is the world’s
premiere aerospace supply plant. It produces aluminum sheet and plate for aerospace and defense, automotive,
commercial transportation, and other industrial product applications” (Facebook, Arconic). While you have most
definitely heard of Arconic, you may not know how deep the history is in relation to Riverdale. I would love to
share some of this with you! Please note: there is so much more than what I can fit in this newsletter! *To avoid
any confusion, Arconic will be referred to as ALCOA in the historical portions of this section. The Davenport Works
location name was changed to Arconic in 2016.
Our history starts with ALCOA announcing their intention to build in an unincorporated area of Scott
County in 1946. By 1948, the first meeting to form what we now call Riverdale occurred. There was a small
number of residents existing in the area before ALCOA, but the growth really occurred with the development of
the ALCOA plant. The company joined together with the residents to fight for incorporation. We recognize ALCOA
for their huge impact in forming the City of Riverdale.
ALCOA not only assisted in the legal fight but also in forming the town after Riverdale won its
independence! They are credited with donating space for City Hall, serving on council, creating the water company
responsible for supplying water to town, and even the fire chief of ALCOA assisted in forming the Riverdale Fire
Department. It is easy to see how the history of Riverdale is directly tied to ALCOA.
Today, Arconic is a leading employer in our area! They have over 2,500 employees in the Davenport Works
location. They are especially proud of their veteran employment! 13% of their employees are veterans. Arconic
even has a resource group called Veterans Employee Resource Group, or Vet ERG. This organization provides
services to veterans including resources for mental health, volunteering their time at various functions, and
donating funds to local vets.
In addition to their involvement with veterans, Arconic is heavily involved in the community. Many of its
management team actively serve on various boards throughout the Quad City area. These include Junior
Achievement of the Heartland, YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley, Genesis Philanthropy, River Action, and Red
Cross. They also raise money and volunteer for multiple charities with just a few being the Riverbend Food Bank,
Boys and Girls Club, and Trinity Health Foundation. They have provided grants to multiple Quad City non-profits
and sponsored the Bix, Trinity Freedom Run, and Festival of Trees, among others.
We are so lucky to have Arconic Davenport Works call Riverdale home for the last 75 years!
We look forward to many more years to come!
