This grant is to be fully used on the purchase of trees for Riverdale’s public spaces. Trees help with shade, wind break, and dispersing rainwater; they are also aesthetically pleasing! Thank you, MidAmerican! If you would like to be involved with our planting date, please email deputyclerk@riverdaleia.org. We are always looking for volunteers. Mayor’s Monthly Question: Do you have any feedback on this year’s snow removal services? All items must be bagged or boxed, they will not take loose trash. Nothing excessively large or heavy as all items are manually lifted into the truck. Items need to be at the curb by 6a. Yard Waste Pick-Up Season Begins April 3 • Yard waste removal is one of the services paid for by property taxes! You do not need any yard waste stickers or additional payment. • Yard waste is defined as grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, stems, trimmings, branches, and tree trunks that come from a Riverdale residence. • Anything less than 2 feet in length and less than 2 inches in diameter needs to be in paper bags (or containers). Bags cannot weigh more than 50 lbs each. • Tree branches/brush need to be cut into max of 5’ sections and weigh no more than 50 lbs. Things to Remember:  Yard waste must be at the curb by 6a on Mondays.  Make sure grass clippings and yard waste that find their way to city streets are blown back into your yard.  Don’t leave the above mentioned in the street or sweep it into storm drains. Keeping yard waste out of our sewers improves the quality of our stormwater and doesn ’t clog up our stormwater system! Riverdale is hosting our inaugural community shred event! Bring your documents to be securely shredded onsite on Saturday, April 29th. Shred-it will be at the City Hall parking lot from 9a -11a. We hope to see you there! Jeff Struve If you’ve attended any of the city’s events, you have probably met longtime resident Jeff Struve. Jeff has lived in Riverdale since 1973, minus a few year stint when he lived in Davenport. Jeff’s 93 year old mother and 13 year old chihuahua, Chia, reside with him. In addition to living here, the Struve family also built a commercial building on Valley Drive in 1975! This building housed multiple companies and businesses throughout the years including: Struve Reality, a beauty salon, MidAmerican Energy, Dictaphone, apartments, and Jeff’s recording studio– Powerhouse Productions! It’s safe to say that Jeff is already a familiar face to many! But, for those who don’t know him, please get to know your neighbor, Jeff Struve: · What’s your favorite part about living in Riverdale? I love the smallish, quiet area. One can remain private or be an extrovert and are not judged for being either. · Do you have any family in the area? My adult son Mark lives in Davenport, my daughter Gwen, Son-in-law Frank, and granddaughter Luna live in Portland Oregon, and I have a niece, Montana, who lives down the street from me in Riverdale. · Do you have any hobbies? If so, how long have you been interested in them? I had been a musician for decades, but retired out of that a few years ago! I played keyboard and back up vocals in a Classic Rock band, as well as a bit of trumpet, sax, flute, and rhythm guitar when needed. I’m also into astronomy and numismatics– I help with the Menke Observatory in Dixon, Iowa and the Wilton School Observatory in Wilton, Iowa. Regarding numismatics: I specialize in ancient coins, Mercury dimes, and confederate currency of the Civil War. I have also enjoyed traveling to archeological sites in Central and South America for the past 20 years. I would love to start dabbling in metal detecting for the fun and exercise of it. · Do you have any favorite restaurants in the QCA? I frequent Village Inn and Coffee Hound a lot. I also really like Café Express, Stacks, and the Duck Creek Pancake House! · Any hidden gems in the area you would like to share? Yes, the clubs! Specifically The Quad City Coin Club and the Quad Cities Astronomical Society– both of which I am a member. I think folks should take advantage of brick and mortar clubs; there’ nothing like a hands-on experience! With being in person, you aren’t subjected to the bias and misinformation that is so easily found by doing an online search. · What is your favorite part about the clubs? I like all aspects: Sharing Interests, learning new things, getting out, and socializing. Jeff would love to share some more information about his clubs: The Astronomy Club has about 30 members currently. They meet monthly as a club and the board meets separately. The public can attend meetings without any pressure to join the club. The Coin Club has around 60 members. They also meet monthly as a full club and separately as a board. They love to give presentations and have displays in schools and libraries! Please reach out if you have an event that they can present at. Both club’s meetings have a short business aspect to them, and show -and-tell, and perhaps a presentation. The Coin Club has a small auction of member items monthly. The Astronomy Club meets on the 3rd Monday each month; The Coin Club meets on the 3rd Thursday each month.
