HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2015-05-14 Memorial Day Observance Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Media Contact: Betsy Fields, Research & Communications Manager bfields@leesburgva.gov  703-771-2734 Leesburg to Celebrate Memorial Day with Observance at Loudoun County Courthouse on Monday, May 25, 2015 Leesburg, VA (May 15, 2015) – The Mayor, Town Council, and Memorial Day Host Committee are honored to present Leesburg’s annual Memorial Day Observance, beginning at 10:00am on Monday, May 25, 2015, at the Loudoun County Courthouse in downtown Leesburg. The Town’s annual Memorial Day Observance, with the laying of wreaths at each of the war memorials, honors all of the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who have served in defense of our country, in all conflicts. Veterans, active duty military, their families and all members of the public are invited to join in this tribute, which will feature patriotic music and military presentations. This year’s featured speaker is retired Judge Thomas P. Horne. Judge Horne, a former US Marine Captain, served as a criminal defense lawyer and judge in Vietnam. He began practicing law in Loudoun County in 1972 as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney and then as the first full-time elected Commonwealth’s Attorney. Judge Horne spent the majority of his career as a Circuit Court Judge here in Loudoun County. He is a member of the Leesburg Rotary Club, the Marine Corps League and the Veterans of Foreign War along with other organizations. The Leesburg VFW Post #1177, American Legion Post #181, local musicians and re-enactors will be among other special guests attending the ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 10:00am in front of the Loudoun County Courthouse. Downtown Leesburg will have road closures in effect from 9:30am through 11:30am, including Market Street from Church to Wirt and King Street from Loudoun to North. Event guests are encouraged to park in the Leesburg Town Hall Parking Garage, accessible from Loudoun Street. Additional on-street parking will be available for ceremony attendees with special needs. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the L oudoun County Senior Center (102 North Street NW).
