Town of Leesburg Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting
Award for 28th Straight Year
Leesburg, VA (May 28, 2015) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has
awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Town of
Leesburg for its Fiscal Year 2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Leesburg has
received this award for twenty-eight consecutive years.
The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. Attainment of this award represents a
significant accomplishment by a government organization and its management. In order to
receive the certificate, an impartial panel judged the Town’s CAFR as meeting the high
standards of the GFOA’s program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full
disclosure” to clearly communicate the Town’s financial story and to motivate users to read the
CAFR.
The GFOA also presented an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement to Clark G. Case,
Leesburg’s Director of Finance and Administrative Services, as the individual primarily
responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. Case joined the Town in September 2014.
“The annual CAFR award means that Leesburg taxpayers should feel very confident about the
financial management of the Town,” said Kaj Dentler, Leesburg’s Town Manager. “I am very
proud that we have maintained this level of continuity despite major changes in the leadership
of the Town’s finance team.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving
over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America.
