CITY OF RIVERDALE PROCUMATION
WHEREAS, the Pleasant Valley High School ("PVHS") choirs program is led by Meg Byrne (in her 28th year at
PV schools), Catherine Lyon (in her 14th year at PV schools), and David Baxter (in his 6th year at PV schools);
and,
WHEREAS, on April 15, 2023, at Davenport West High School, the PVHS vocalists participated in the Iowa High
School Music Association ("IHSMA") Solo & Ensemble Festival, as they have annually for many decades; and,
WHEREAS, at the festival, PVHS vocalists were awarded 52 Division I Superior ratings, 41 Division II Excellent
ratings, and 9 Division I II Good ratings; and,
WHEREAS, Outstanding Performance Awards/Best of Center Awards were earned by Tommy Glennon (vocal
solo), Leah Mendelin (vocal solo with a perfect score), and Treble Ensemble (Shobini Tyler, Leah Mendelin,
Elizabeth Hernandez, Rhema Saddler, Celia Vondracek, Alyssa Gauss, Grace Habben, Lexi Pelzer, and Ava
Burmahl); and,
WHEREAS, special recognition for perfect scores was earned by Caleb Swinney (vocal solo), Elizabeth
Hernandez and Celia Vondracek (vocal duet), bass quartet (Connor Shutte, Seth Bennion, Tony Shamrell, and
Bryce Vining), and mixed quintet (Leah Mendelin, Ava Burmahl, Caleb Swinney, Tommy Glennon, and Bryce
Vining); and,
WHEREAS, all PVHS vocalists mentioned above, plus vocalist Mason Neil, are also members of the Class 4A
Leading Tones jazz choir, which on March 28, 2023, was invited to participate in the annual Iowa Vocal Jazz
Championships for the 15th consecutive year, and finished as state runners-up (second in the State of Iowa);
and,
WHEREAS, at this event, five vocalists were accepted to the All -State Jazz Choir, an ensemble of just 20
students from around the state; those vocalists are Tommy Glennon, Owen McCredie, Leah Mendelin, Celia
Vondracek (first year accepted), and Bryce Vining (second year accepted).
THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby
proclaim May 9th as
PLEASANT VA LEY HIQH SCHOOL CHOIRS DAY
in Riverdale, and encourage staff, residents, and visitors to join me in congratulating the Pleasant Valley High
School vocalists for their hard work, dedication, and achievements.
