AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE MAKING
EXCEPTION TO REQUIREMENTS FOR SIGNS LOCATED IN ANY ZONE
FOR THE PURPOSE OF ALLOWING CHURCH SIGNS AND SIGNING A
RECOGNIZED ESTABLISHED CHURCH WITHIN THE CITY OF TIFFIN
BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIFFIN, IOWA:
Section 1. Purpose: The purpose of this ordinance is to amend the zoning ordinance for
the City of Tiffin for the purpose of allowing church signage to recognized and
established church buildings within the City of Tiffin.
Section 2. Amendment.
That recognized and established churches within the City of Tiffin are
allowed to make signage beyond the requirements of the rules established for
regulating signs within the City of Tiffin. Upon written application for exception
from ordinance rules and approval of the city council a church may use signs that
would otherwise be disallowed within the zone in which a church may be located.-
Section 3. Penalty Provision. The city may elect, at its sole discretion,to prosecute any
violation either as simple misdemeanor or a municipal infraction.
Section 4. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions
of the Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 5. Severability. If any section,provision, or part of this ordinance shall be
adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity
of the oridnance as a whole, or any section,provision, or part thereof not adjudged
invalid or unconstitutional.
Section 6. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in effect after its final passage,
approval and posting as provided by law.

Onh 14th day of March ,2000 at aregular meeting of the Tiffin City
Council.Tiffin,Iowa,Councilperson Bar t p1 G introduced Ordinance No.
and moved that it be given its first reading. The motion was seconded by
Councilpersoni , Ryan,

Four members of the council being present and having voted"Aye",Mayor Glenn Potter
declared Motion carried,and Ordinance N0.2001 -241 was read the first time and placed on
. record.
Thereupon,it was moved by Councilperson Ryan and seconded by
Councilperson Walls that the laws and rules providing that ordinances be
considered and voted on for passage at two council meetings prior to the meeting at which it is to
be finally passed be suspended and dispensed with and that Ordinance No?0 01 -2 41 be
placed on its last reading.
Ayes: Walls, Dils, Ryan and Bartels
Nayes: None. Absent: Gericke
Four members of the council being present and having voted"Aye",Mayor Glenn Potter
declared Motion to be carried,and Ordinance No.2 0 01 -2 41 was then placed upon its last
reading and was read the last time.
Thereupon,it was moved by Councilperson Bartels and seconded by
Councilperson Dils that Ordinance Not 0 01 -2 41 be placed on its final
passage and adopted.
Four members of the council being present and having voted"Aye",Mayor Glenn Potter
declared the Motion,carried,and Ordinance passed and adopted
Whereupon the Mayor declared that Ordinance Nod 0 01 -2 41 'be adopted and signified his
approval of the same by fixing his signature thereto.
PASSED by the Council on tfl6 th day of March ,2000
and APPROVED this 14 thdayo f March 2000.

I, Clerk of the City of Tiffin, Iowa, state that an ordinance entitled,AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE MAKING EXCEPTION TO
REQUIREMENTS FOR SIGNS LOCATED IN ANY ZONE FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ALLOWING CHURCH SIGNS AND SIGNING A RECOGNIZED ESTABLISHED
CHURCH WITHIN THE CITY OF TIFFIN,JOHNSON COUNTY, IOWA and known
as No. 2001-241 was duly passed by the Tiffin City Council on the 14th day of
March , 200f and signed by the mayor on the 1 4th day of March ,2001,
and published on the 7Rth day of March i , 2000 by posting copies thereof in
three public places within the limits of the City of Tiffin, Iowa.
