Construction Contract Awarded for Downtown Improvements
on South King Street
Leesburg, VA (June 10, 2015) – At
last night’s Council Meeting, the
Leesburg Town Council awarded a
construction contract to Madigan
Construction, Inc. for improvements
to South King Street, from Loudoun
Street to Market Street. All work
will be done at night, between 9:00
p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Part of the overall Downtown
Improvements CIP, the King Street
contract includes widening the
sidewalk on the west side of South King Street, installing street trees and constructing a raised
mid-block crosswalk. In addition, there will be some storm drainage improvements in the
vicinity of the mid-block crosswalk and improvements to the signalized intersection at King and
Market streets. The total contract amount is $603,099.74. Work is expected to begin in early
August and be completed before Thanksgiving. New streetlights will be installed in 2016 as part
of the streetlight replacements throughout the downtown.
A pre-construction meeting will be held with the businesses and residents in late July, prior to
construction work starting. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the contractor personel,
inspection staff and to go over how the project will be built.
The contract does not include improvements on King Street from Market Street to North Street,
that were originally included in the scope of the project.
