BOARD OF HEALTH
EMERGENCY ORDER MANDATING FACE COVERINGS
WHEREAS, on April 30, 2020 the Watertown Board of Health issued an emergency order
mandating the use of face coverings in the Town effective May 4, 2020; and
WHERAS, on May 1, 2020 the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts issued
COVID-19 Order No. 31 Requiring Face Coverings In Public Places Where Social Distancing Is
Not Possible; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Health's order differs from that of the Governor; and
WHEREAS, in the interest of efficient and effective protection of public health the Board of
Health has determined to render its order consistent with that of the Governor.
NOW, THEREFORE, for the above stated reasons, the Watertown Board of Health hereby
amends its September 16, 2020 emergency order as follows:
1. Section 1 of the emergency order is amended to provide that individuals aged two (2)
years or older are subject to the terms of the order; provided, however, that the wearing of
face coverings by children aged between two (2) and five (5) years is encouraged but
shall be at the discretion of the child's parent or guardian.
2. Section 1 of the emergency order is further amended to provide that individuals shall be
required to wear face coverings when in or at any place open to the public, whether
indoors or outdoors, if such individuals do not or are unable to maintain a distance of
approximately six feet from any other individual.
3. Section 3 of the emergency order is amended to provide that if non -criminal disposition is
elected for enforcement, then any person who violates any provision of the order may be
subject to a warning for the first violation and may be subject to a penalty in the amount
of three hundred dollars ($300.00) for each subsequent violation.
4. All other provisions of the emergency order shall remain in full force and effect.
