Spectators of all ages lined the parade route to see patriotic floats, animals, classic cars, dance groups and more. The parade featured the 8th annual Patriot Cup competition, sponsored by Leesburg Today, which is awarded to the top patriotic entry, with the winner’s names to be engraved onto the Patriot Cup. The Cup is on display year-round at Leesburg Town Hall. This year’s winner was the Loudoun Fair and Associates, Loudoun County 4-H Clubs and the Loudoun Extension Service float. Standing for head, heart, hands and health, the Loudoun 4-H is a youth development program of the Virginia Cooperative Extension. The program teaches leadership, citizenship and life skills that will benefit youth for the rest of their lives. The activities encourage a “learning through doing” philosophy. In spite of a rainy afternoon, the skies cleared in time for the evening celebration at Ida Lee Park. The celebration featured a concert and fireworks, sponsored by the United States Marines and Wells Fargo. The event drew a fabulous crowd, with an estimated attendance of 19,500 in and around the park vicinity. A variety of food vendors on-hand along with live entertainment featuring the country sounds of the band, Harley Boone, as well as the largest fireworks display in Northern Virginia, made for an exceptional evening. The event drew visitors from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland, as well as locals to enjoy the celebration.
