A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF HOUSING FOR THE
ELDERLY WITHIN THE CITY OF MOAB.
WHEREAS, previous housing studies involving the Moab area have
shown that housing in the full range of affordability and type is
lacking within Moab and Grand County; and
WHEREAS, the demand for affordable housing for the elderly has
escalated to critical levels, and will continue to increase well
into the next century; and
WHEREAS, Community Housing Services Incorporated, a Utah non-
profit corporation with considerable experience with housing
projects for the elderly, has proposed to submit an application
under the HUD 202 program to develop an elderly housing project
within Moab; and
WHEREAS, a location for the elderly housing project has been
proposed for a site adjacent to the existing senior center; and
WHEREAS, the Grand County Council on Aging has expressed
support of the proposed project and location; and
WHEREAS, numerous polls of the senior citizen community within
Grand County have indicated an overwhelming support of the project;
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF MOAB,
hereby resolve to support the HUD 202 Application submitted by
Community Housing Services, Incorporated for the elderly housing
project as proposed in concept.
