HomeMy Public PortalAbout09/18/2012 Special CCMSPECIAL MEDINA CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 18, 2012 The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on September 18, 2012 at 6:05 p.m. in the City Hall Chambers. Mayor Crosby presided. I. ROLL CALL Members present: Crosby, Martinson, Pederson, Siitari and Weir. Members absent: Also present: City Planner Dusty Finke, Lake Minnetonka Cable Commission Representative Judy Mallett and City Administrator Scott Johnson. II. Leatherdale's Farm Operation on Cottonwood Trail Scott Johnson updated the City Council on the Leatherdale's Farm Operation on Cottonwood Trail. Staff has concerns with the property following the manure management ordinance and following road weight restrictions. Council directed staff to move forward with the petition and waiver proposal to upgrade the portion of the road up to the Leatherdale's driveway to a 9 ton road in the future. 111. Lake Minnetonka Communication Commission (LMCC) Update LMCC Commissioner Judy Mallett provided the City Council with an update on the Commission's activities. Council discussed requiring conduit in new subdivisions. The conduit can be provided on power poles or buried in the right away. Council discussed how this could be accomplished and directed staff to look into this concept further. Commissioner Mallett discussed LMCC's ability to highlight community activities through programming. She will put together information on starting a local program to highlight area businesses. The program would run on Mediacom's channel 8 or 20. Plus, the program would be accessible on the LMCC website. Council also directed staff to put together a letter to the local television stations to request the City of Medina be placed on their weather maps. Commissioner Mallett updated the Council on the negotiations with Mediacom for the new Franchise Agreement. The process is slow moving. The LMCC will focus on the lack of access for residents and try to address this issue through the homes per mile standard under the agreement. Council requested information on how many homes have access to Mediacom's services and how many customers are currently served in Medina. The LMCC will provide this information to the Council. IV.
