Sinkhole Repairs in Exeter Neighborhood Continue
Water service restored temporarily to residents in Exeter townhomes.
Leesburg, VA (August 17, 2015 | 5:40pm) – Water service has been restored temporarily to
residents on Currant, Clove, Peppermill and Warrenton Terraces in the Exeter neighborhood in
northeast Leesburg, following the development of a sinkhole yesterday morning.
The sinkhole has been excavated approximately eight feet deep in order to uncover the water
and sewer lines and put temporary stabilization measures in place.
On Tuesday morning, geotechnical analysis of the site will be done to determine the extent of
the sinkhole. This analysis will involve drilling holes around the perimeter of the existing
sinkhole to identify additional underground cavities. Once the geotechnical analysis is
complete, the sinkhole will be filled and permanent repairs to the utility lines and pavement
will be completed.
Water customers in the affected neighborhood as well as nearby areas may experience
discolored water as a result of these repairs. Customers should run their cold water tap s for 20
minutes to clear the water lines. Customers with questions about their water service can call
the Utilities Department at 703-737-7075.
