Leesburg, VA (August 25, 2015) – The Leesburg Commission on Public Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographic art encompassing images as broad in subject matter as people of India, polar bears on the Arctic Circle, canyons of the Southwest, puffins on the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea, sunrise at the Vietnam Wall, and roses along the Leesburg W&OD Trail. “Expression of Light” will open with a reception from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, at the Leesburg Town Hall (25 W Market St) on Friday, September 4, 2015, as part of downtown Leesburg’s monthly First Friday celebration of the arts. Thomas (Tom) Ramsay is a co-founder and the lead instructor for The Leesburg School of Photography at Photoworks. He is a still photographer, cinematographer, lecturer, and motion picture/television director who has received more than 30 national and international film awards. He has photographed and directed for Time-Life’s “Wild Wild World of Animals,” Mutual of Omaha’s “Wild Kingdom,” the U.S. National Park Service, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. His films have been distributed worldwide and on ABC, BBC, CBS, and PBS television networks. Tom continues to explore the nature of light as the medium of photography, through his studies of the dimensions of modern digital image capture, the human visi on system, the artistry of classical painting, and the technical demands of photographic printing. In so doing, he is able to synthesize complex and often disparate elements of content into fresh, powerful photographic expressions of the beauty of light. These same concepts form the basis of his instructional method, enabling his photography students to develop their own unique artistic visions through the understanding and integration of art and technology. In 2013, Tom was honored as an Alumnus of Notable Achievement by his alma mater, the University of Minnesota, for his work in photography, teaching, and image analysis breakthroughs involving early breast cancer detection within standard mammograms. # # #
